One Year On

Hi friends,

We just celebrated our first birthday and thought we'd mark the occasion by sharing some photographs of the shop fit-out from April 2016. Isn't it crazy how fast time passes?

An empty arch... So many possibilities.

We worked with two Edinburgh-based firms to create an interior that responded well to the industrial fabric of the building. Konishi Gaffney Architects and Johannes Sailer delivered our vision and more. We got to work fast. First up, an industrial lighting installation that will be the main focal point of the space.

Our unique lighting installation in the studio of Johannes Sailer.

The unique light was fitted in our coffee shop along with a bespoke seating area and display units. We used three materials for the entire fit-out: steel, valchromat and heraklith.

Custom-built units fitting neatly into place.

They look so big here but we often find ourselves running out of counter space!

A skilled fabricator lifts the unique lighting installation into place.

We overcame many hurdles and obstacles to get to this point. The light almost didn't make it through the front of the arch, and it was a snug fit at the top.

We've done some reshuffling in the last twelve months. This vast lighting installation is now the feature of our kitchen and bakery, in an adjoining arch. We've added more seating to the coffee shop in the form of long benches so we can welcome more people to Baba Budan.

Who knows what other changes are to come!
